Peak Guides Ownership Change
Matt Wade transferred ownership of Peak to Keith Garvey in December 2017. Lance Sullins joined Keith in ownership of the business in August 2018 and in April 2019 purchased Keith’s shares to become the sole owner of Peak.
What will change?
Peak’s image will change, our commitment to exceptional experiences will not. Our mission is to inspire passionate pursuit of climbing by offering guided climbing and instructional courses in the best venues around the world. We strive to be the best partner for individuals who have sought out guided climbing or skiing and to teach best practices in the mountains with thoughtful progression, giving climbers and skiers the tools to succeed on their own if they wish.
What about only certified guides?
Peak has always maintained a requirement for guides to be at a minimum certified Single Pitch Instructors (SPI) through the AMGA. Going forward, with few exceptions, guides are at a minimum certified in at least one of the three guide track disciplines. We also require the guide to have completed the applicable training in any terrain not covered under their guide track cert – something you’ll hear referred to as the AMGA Scope of Practice (SOP). Peak will at a minimum operate within the SOP and in most cases exceed it.
We’re still here in Ouray!
