The New Backcountry Ice Climber

This is an itinerary for climbers who are interested in building the basic skills to go ice climbing on a multipitch ice climb. You’ll work with a guide at a low ratio to refine your climbing skill and learn the systems needed to climb bigger terrain outside of the Ice Park.

This is an offering we like to call a “collection of awesome”. These are itineraries linking together our favorite objectives in the way we’d choose to experience them with our friends (i.e. YOU)! All of our offerings are 100% customizable, and the sample itinerary below is no exception.

Day 1:

The convenience of the ice park lends it to being an ideal place to start your trip. We’ll review the skills needed to follow a backcountry ice climb and ice movement in the controlled and easily accessible environment of the Ice Park.

Day 2:

As with all great climbing areas, there’s the quintessential roadside cragging spot. In Ouray, we have what we call the Skylight area. With dozens of climbs, both ice and mixed, in close proximity ranging in difficulty who could ask for more!

Day 3:

We’ll take on a larger objective on the third day bring all the skills you’ve learned together. If your group is larger than two people a second guide will join the party to allow multipitch climbing. Examples of objectives for this day include 2nd Gully, Dexter, and Horsetail Falls!

Group Size

This is a private program, no one else will be paired with your party.
