Ophir Pass Ultimate Ski (OPUS) Hut
The OPUS Hut offers a European-style, catered hut skiing experience. When you return to the hut after a day of skiing, you will be greeted with a freshly made steaming bowl of après-ski soup. Delightful dinners and hearty breakfasts are prepared by the hut keeper and shared around a communal dining table in the great room. Big windows adorn the hut’s walls so you can look out to the vast playground of ski terrain that surrounds you. In the evening, a trip to the wood fired sauna relaxes tired muscles while you reflect on the day’s adventures. It is a uniquely European hut skiing experience, conveniently located in the San Juan Mountains of Colorado.
Big Alpine Ski Terrain
The OPUS Hut is located at 11,700’ in the middle of a vast ocean of ski terrain. There are a few areas with tree runs, otherwise most of the skiing is above treeline. It is big, wide open, and filled with high quality backcountry ski runs. Many runs eclipse 2500 vertical feet from top to bottom. It is a paradise for intermediate to advanced level skiers. Beginners will have fun too, enjoying the smaller runs around the hut.
Basecamp or Hut-to-Hut Traverse
As a basecamp the OPUS Hut is the perfect spot for a 3-day, 2-night trip January – March for powder seekers, or in March – April for ski mountaineering and those seeking corn! It’s also possible to do a quick one-night visit with some skiing around the hut. For hut-to-hut traverses, we utilize the OPUS Hut at a part of our San Juan Haute Route which links several huts throughout the greater Silverton, Ouray, and Telluride area.
Custom Trips of Any Length
We can arrange hut skiing trips of any length to the OPUS Hut to suit your skills, goals, and objectives.
