While backcountry skiing from hut-to-hut is nothing new, these itineraries were developed to get skiers off the beaten path, to enjoy the spectacular views of the San Juan Mountains, and to explore inspiring ski lines in the high alpine environment between Silverton and Telluride. The itineraries are reminiscent of hut skiing in the Swiss or French Alps where packing light is supported by luxury mountain lodges, comfortable beds, and gourmet dinners. Without the burden of extra ‘stuff’ we focus on the overall ski experience and the pursuit of finding deep powder, breathtaking summits, and awe-inspiring lines. We have captured some of our favorite itineraries below for the introductory, advanced, and expert skiers. There are infinite possibilities here, so if you don’t see your dream itinerary below, let us know and we’ll design it for you!
This is a private program, no one else will be paired with your party. If your group is larger than 4, we apply a group discount and add guides to keep the guest to guide ratio at 4:1 or lower.

Silverton to Ouray – 2-Day, 1-Night Trip
This 2-day, 1-night traverse is our most popular itinerary because it can be done all winter long! The tour begins at the base of Silverton Mountain and heads west from the ski area into one of the remote valleys where skiers are not often seen. We’ll seek the best snow and untracked lines as we ascend to a summit along the ridge splitting Red Mountain Pass and Silverton Mountain. After taking in the impressive views, we’ll descend down toward Red Mountain Pass to either the Addie S hut or Red Mountain Alpine Lodge. On the second day, we’ll move over to the west side of Red Mountain Pass, and gain the beautiful ridgeline splitting Red Mountain Pass and Telluride. From the top of the ridgeline, we’ll choose a peak to summit. Most of these summits are just over 13,000’ and offer some of the most breathtaking views into Telluride, the Mt. Sneffels massive and the jagged peaks of the Weminuche. We’ll then ski an impressive 3,500’ descent onto Camp Bird Road and then skin along the road to catch a short ride back to Ouray.
Silverton to Telluride – 2-Day, 1-Night Trip
This 2-day, 1-night traverse is often completed between March and May, when the snowpack is more likely to be stable. However, if avalanche hazard is low this tour can be done anytime of the season. The tour begins just outside of Silverton where you’ll ski untouched lines just west of Silverton Mountain. After touring over the Red Mountain group, we’ll choose from a variety of ski descents depending on conditions and skiing ability, and finish at either the Red Mountain Alpine Lodge or Addie S Hut. We’ll then ski an impressive 5,000’ descent past Bridal Veil Falls and into the Town of Telluride.
