Youth Rock Camps

Our rock climbing camps emphasize learning new skills in a safety-oriented, fun-focused atmosphere. Participants will learn how to use rock climbing equipment, tie climbing knots, and belay for another climber. They also learn climbing technique and progress onto more challenging objective as they learn.

Overview

There are two options depending on your child’s age:

Ages 8-12

This course is a perfect introduction to the lifetime sport of rock climbing. Our patient, caring guides will teach the very basic skills and safety systems needed so that kids can feel safe and comfortable, while experiencing a very thrilling activity. Our goal is to have as much fun learning climbing movement and rappelling to make this the most memorable week for your child.

Itinerary:
Day 1 – Meet at the Peak Mountain Guide office at 9:00am. Get geared up and head to the Ouray Rotary Park for a day of rock climbing. Climb until 1:00.
Day 2 – Meet at the Peak Mountain Guide office at 9:00am. Get geared up and head to the Ouray Rotary Park for a day of rock climbing. Climb until 1:00.
Day 3 – Meet at the Peak Mountain Guide office at 9:00am. Get geared up and head to the Roadside crag for a day of introduction to Rappelling. We will also rock climb at the roadside crag as well. Climb until 1:00.
Day 4 – Meet at the Peak Mountain Guide office at 9:00am. Get geared up and head to the alcove wall for a day of rock climbing. Climb until 1:00.

Ages 12-16

This course is designed for the child that has some climbing experience and wants to get more mileage on the rock this summer. This course will help refine belaying and movement skills and introduce technical systems and lead climbing for those interested. Our guides will help facilitate the program each day to help the kids reach their climbing goals. Personal responsibility and goal setting will be the focus each day. Don’t miss this opportunity for your kids to build on their climbing foundation.

Day 4 – Meet at the Peak Mountain Guide office at 9:00am. Get geared up and head to the Alcove wall for a day of rock climbing. Climb until 3:00.
Day 5 – Meet at the Peak Mountain Guide office at 9:00am. Get geared up and head to the Overlook wall for a day of rock climbing. Climb until 3:00.

Group Size

This is a group enrollment program There is a maximum ratio of 3:1 with six climbers and two guides.

Time and Place

The meeting time varies depending on the trip and meets at Basecamp Bouldering at 480 Main St in Ouray.

Equipment List

All the technical climbing equipment required for this outing is included.
