Wham ridge is visible from several vantage points throughout the range. It is a striking line with high quality rock. The approach is a significant undertaking and taking a few days to enjoy the location is definitely worthwhile.
The first day of the trip involves a ride on the DSNGR a historic rail line between Durango and Silverton. Starting from Elk Meadows, we follow the Colorado Trail to outlet of Vestal Basin. It is possible also to hike in from Molas Pass to Elk Meadows.
The second day is the summit day. We climb the route and return to camp and relax and enjoy one of the most scenic backpacking locations anywhere.
On the last day we break camp in the morning and make the hike back to Elk Meadows and ride the train back to Durango or hike to Molas Pass.
This is a private program, no one else will be paired with your party. If your group is larger than 2, we apply a group discount and additional guides are added to keep the guest to guide ratio at 2:1 or lower.
Each trip is a custom affair. In general, you can expect to meet at our office at 160 Liddell St in Ridgway on the morning of your trip if hiking from Molas Pass or in Durango if riding the train.
All of the technical equipment is provided for this trip.
