Overview

This is the most popular and challenging 14er traverse in Colorado. The difficulty increases the satisfaction of completing an iconic traverse.

Commitment and Challenge on High

The traverse of Wilson El Diente is one of Colorado’s most challenging 14er link ups. Weather patterns in the central Rockies include afternoon thunderstorms. The elevation of the traverse averages 14,000′ along the exposed ridge with few options for retreat. Combining the terrain and the weather patterns result in a a serious undertaking.

Single Day Objective versus Overnight

The standard tack for this objective is to do it in a single day push. The result is a mega alpine day starting shortly after midnight with a round trip duration of 15 to 20 hours. An alternative is to hike in and spend the night closer to the base of the climbing. Adding a second day changes the price of the objective: 1:1 increases to $950 and 2:1 increases to $675 per person.
