Boulder Flatirons Rock Climbing

The Flatirons represent the iconic skyline above Boulder. You can be on the rock, enjoying a great climb in only 45 minutes after leaving the Denver International Airport. The Flatirons are low angle low 5th class on the east side, yet on the west side of the formation is a great variety of steeper sport and trad climbing.

Overview

There are thousands of routes to climb in the Flatirons. This page is meant to highlight the classic climbs of the Third and First Flatirons.

Part of the Ultimate Rock Pass

The Flatirons are part of our Ultimate Rock Pass. The Ultimate Rock Pass is a punch pass style offering that marries the benefits of 1 on 1 instruction and guidance of a guide with the cost savings of a group enrollment program. This pass is good anywhere we offer rock climbing “day trips”.

If you were to climb only one route in Boulder?

The Flatirons offer many classic routes and with low angle rock, it makes for great family outings with excellent views of the City of Boulder and the Eastern Plains from the summit.

Classic Flatirons Routes

East Face Direct on the First Flatiron 5.6

Taking the aesthetic line up the center of the First is a mega classic in the Boulder area. The east face has an engaging and runout first pitch, but gives way to consistently mellow rambling up to the North Arete. The nature of the route changes here to an exposed and undulating ridge feature that eventually joins the summit.

Standard East Face of the Third Flatiron 5.4

This is possible the best introductory multi-pitch in Colorado! Consistently engaging and rarely lacking opportunities for placing protection, the standard route on the Third Flatiron is a great place to get an introduction to being multiple pitches off the ground via easier climbing.
