Unaweep Canyon is tucked away in a picturesque canyon just south of Grand Junction. The entrance of the canyon is sandstone with incredible bouldering. As you drive deeper into the canyon, the sandstone gives way to clean granite walls.
Unaweep Canyon is part of our Ultimate Rock Pass. The Ultimate Rock Pass is a punch pass style offering that marries the benefits of 1 on 1 instruction and guidance of a guide with the cost savings of a group enrollment program. This pass is good anywhere we offer rock climbing “day trips”.
There are a number of crags in Unaweep that function really well as a classroom with routes suitable for the most reluctant beginner alongside climbs requiring greater skill level. Learn anchor construction, movement skills, self-rescue techniques, and more. With many buttresses greater than 600 feet in height, Unaweep is a great destination for getting off the deck on longer routes. Peak uses Unaweep as a stepping stone for the even longer climbs of the Black Canyon.
On the granite walls of Unaweep Canyon on the Western Slope of Colorado, Ally sets out to climb 23 pitches for her 23rd birthday. She mantles, jams and thrutches her way through shallow sloping cracks surrounded by a crew of comrades. They navigate cacti, springtime mud, and fatigue, and fueled by gummy worms, they finish the final pitch in the dark.
