Intermediate Rock Course

In this 2 day intermediate rock climbing course participants learn the technical skills to become an independent party. This course dives into the principles and methodology of building anchors and setting up rock climbs on toprope. You’ll learn how to address common issues encountered in the single pitch environment with the most up to date best practices.

Outline


Day 1:
After brief introductions the group will dive into sorting out equipment and issuing technical gear for those who need to borrow it. The first order of business is for the guide to demonstrate setting up a toprope followed by a half day of movement lessons and climbing. The afternoon lessons revolve around the placement adn removal of rock protection and the principles of building multiple component anchors.

Day 2:
The morning begins with a quick review of the previous day’s anchoring lesson. Additional considerations and options are layered on. After another session of movement lessons and climbing the group will cover belaying from above and cleaning anchors.

This is an open enrollment course. The maximum group size is 3.

Time and Place

This trip runs in a number of different climbing areas. Detailed instructions on where to meet are given during the registration process. In general, the days run from 8am to 4pm.
